94 XJ6 wiper problem

The windshield wipers turn on but stop after moving sometimes half way across the windshield sometimes less, the motor is running just no movement on the wiper blade, any suggestions. Thanks

Jagfix38 08-12-2011 06:05 PM

It could just be a worn spline where the wiper arm attaches to the motor...check to see if it is loose and tighten it up or take it off, add a little silicone or something similar, reattach and see it that cures the partial movement

Thanks i'll give it a try

Do you mean that when you use the intermittent setting it won't do a complete swipe?

petek57 08-20-2011 11:06 AM

mrtalkradio yep it wont complete the cycle. the wipers intermittely work in the other speeds. If you take the wiper off the windshield it works. if you use the intermittent cycle it screws the wiper sequence up completely. any suggestions would help. thanks

checked as much as i can without removing complete assembly, everything seems to be attached, as long as the wiper blade is off the windshield it works as advertised, once you put the blade back on the windshield it wont complete any cycle, help lol

I had the same problem on my 90,what happened was in the winter the wipers were turned on with a lot of wet snow on the windshield and stopped half way. After cleaning the windshield of snow an starting the wipers they would not complete a full cycle when in the intermitent mode, but worked fine a full speed. Replaced with a used wiper motor which i bougt from a salvage yard and it worked as it ahould.

Where is the wiper motor relay located on a 94 XJ6, thanks

mrtalkradio 08-31-2011 11:23 AM

In regards to the problem that I had asked about, the issue is a fuse under the passenger side kickplate. You will see it just hanging there. 99.9% sure if you change that fuse the intermittent wiper action will complete its full sweep. Do a search in the forum, as i had to do on both my 90's. There is even a picture on here somewhere of the exact location and what it looks like. It fixed both my cars problem with that intermittent setting. Hope that helps.

wiper motor problems

Replaced the motor works great but the blade parks in the drivers view and not at the bottom of the windshield. anyway to adjust where the blade parks thanks

mrtalkradio 09-27-2011 07:03 PM

They all park on the drivers side. You'll get used to it. You didn't need to change that fuse?

xj6 wiper problem

well i repaced the wiper motor and it works great except when it parks its in the middle the driver windshield, i do believe is should be a little lower toward the bottom of the windshield:icon_hyper: any suggestions. thanks

Did you replace that fuse?

petek57 10-01-2011 08:21 AM

i've looked for the fuse on the passenger side, cant locate it, looked behind the kick panel, no fuse insight, any suggestions

have not been able to locate the fuse behind the passenger kick panel, it might be different on the 94 model. wipers work they just dont park in the proper location when stopped

I know you fixed your issue, but here is where that fuse is. And for anyone whose wiper's don't park while being in intermittent mode.

Maybe this will help...

I know this question was asked a while ago and the problem may be fixed but others may be experiencing the same thing.
It may be the fuse as mentioned if it is happening in int mode, it is a 10 a if I recall and is located in the right foot well behind the knee bolster sort of inline not in a block it is a blade type fuse (ATO). Change that if the problem happens during intermittent mode.

If as stated there was heavy snow or the arm was frozen in place it may have slipped on the splines and just need to be removed and properly placed, just remove the hold down nut, pull off the arm and replace in the proper park position.

Or... maybe the park switch is cracked, it is located under the top cover of the wiper trans box, remove the cover and run the wipers and see where the cam is contacting the switch when the wipers are turned off. You may need to remove it and and position it where it contacts the switch later. It may be cracked or loose on the shaft, you can try gluing it that may work.

Please use extreme care when working around the wiper mechanism, it has alot of torque and can really hurt you.

Hope this helps.:icon_beerchug:

Good exchange, but still don't know where the location of the wiper motor fuse is, or where the switches are for this motor. Still looking.

This picture doesn't help? That is the location of your wiper motor fuse. The microswitch that is spoken about in an above post is under the cover of the wiper motor, under the hood.
