Default CD Changer

Well... I purchased the 1994 Vanden Plas to go with my Mk2. It is in great shape and I am excited for the nice weather so that I can drive it, too much salt etc this time of year in the Northeast.
It has the factory CD changer in the trunk, but no cd cartridge. Does anyone know if the unit is an Alpine, Kenwood or something else, so that I may find a new CD cartridge.

I consulted in my manual but could not spot any hit as to what model we do have so that's why I am uploading an actual image to the magazine at least it gives you an idea

However it should be either clarion or Alpine pre 90 cars differ in brand between these two

It should definitely be an Alpine unit, my OEM radio/CD Changer in my 93 XJ40 was. You may get lucky at a local bone yard and yank the cartridge out of a junker. eBay is more than likely the spot you're going to find the cartridge (used). Only thing is you may have to buy the whole used CD Changer if that's the way the seller has it for sale.

If you ever get tired of the OEM stereo setup and/or it eventually has problems like mine did going for a modern Alpine aftermarket setup is excellent. I was hesitant to do it due to taking away from the "originality" but if you find a quality stereo shop that knows what they're doing (not BestBuy, etc..) it will turn out great. Aftermarket Alpine head units sit a littler further back than OEM radio, but look VERY clean and stock still. Alpine CD Changers can be directly fitted to where OEM changer is, or even off to the side where I had mine. They're directly connected together and work exactly like an OEM radio/changer setup, but better quality. Not to mention with a head unit you have a loadable CD in the head unit plus the 6 in back! Just a thought if you ever change it all out down the road.
