High Pitch Humming Sound in Left Rear Area
Hi: Recently I have noticed a high pitch humming sound originating somewhere in the left rear from my '91 Sovereign. She is still delivering smooth acceleration. I strongly suspect its coming from the fuel pump. Does this typically mean eminent pump failure (which really means out on a cold Saturday night with the wife, pump quits, wife is angry.....)? If so doc, how much time do I have left? If it's a good chance the noise is a sign of pump failure then I should probably change it along with the filter. Thanks, Ren

The fuel pump is in the fuel tank about CENTER. You can shut the engine off and put a 'jumper' in the fuel pump relay socket (30/87), sit in the car to see if that is what you are hearing. The relay is mounted next to the brake booster in the engine compartment.
