Trying to figure out what brand of front shocks I just removed from my 93 VP. There’s no brand name like the Boges and KYB I’ve seen. Plain black with a factory stack of bushings in very good condition. Car has 120k miles so very likely these are replacements. Numbers stamped on the shock body are: 39005E B06A05
Shock cap stamped DO NOT OPEN HIGH PRESSURE
Any help?
Once again the community comes through with the answer, thank you kindly. Now I understand the mushy handling on freeway cloverleafs and windy mountain roads. Now to choose the best replacement for a new stock rubber bushed front suspension with stock ride height and spring rates.
Boge is now owned by ZF, which also owns Sachs. I once found a good deal on a pair of Sachs rear shocks and they performed just like the Boges they replaced, so I have a feeling that ZF is using the Sachs name on aftermarket shocks that would have originally been branded Boge. I tried Bilsteins on one of my XJ40s but thought the ride was a bit harsh. I had the best combination of ride and handling with the Boges and Sachs.

Availability stateside is one problem, UK supplier won't ship to US (WTF???) And I found the B6 for under half the Boge price, they'll be here tomorrow. Necessity is dictating the project management schedule. What started out a power rack swap morphed into "need to do bushes and ***** anyway" into " so, that's the wrong way to remove a shock and bend the shaft" into "well, now that the front end will be fresh, what about the dog with worms dragging it's *** and cambering the rears badly?" into "found a XJ6 drift car video on Youtube" to "maybe I'll buy that 95 XJR in TX and trade the '40" to " F%ck it, LS/T56 swap with full race suspension". In that order. Ahem.
Which brings me back to reality: rebuilt control arms went in yesterday, hopefully I get coils and shocks in today and tomorrow, rack & brakes in by thurs, THEN rediscover the cockpit is gutted for Darlington repairs and to dry out the inch of water in the front footwells... And all this because I found water in the trunk (replaced the antenna bushing) and the defrost wouldn't work (that's a NO DRIVE in the freezing rain of Oregon winter). Rule of thumb: a 30 year old car has the medical file of a 60 year old human, regardless of nice paint.
Just a quick FYI on the defrost; it doesn't come on till the car is fully warmed up, maybe 2 or more minutes. Hi speed should also work regardless of blown Darlington transistors ..if set to A/C, blowers will come on straight away at startup however if heat is selected, blowers will be dormant until temp comes up ..
If blowers are totally dead at all times, look to your footwell fuseboxes. You should have 12v on the brown with blue tracer leading to the blower at all times even with ign off.
Good luck!
Larry
