noise at front of engine
I OWN A 1991 XJ6VDP. great car. When the engine is cold,i have a high pitched noise coming from the front of the engine. it is not a belt or the clutch fan. does anyone know what my issue is?

if it's not the belts.. then it may be a chain tensioner noisy.. check your oil level..

I too think tensioner. Look at the plate just behind the distributor and see if it has an arrow on it. If it's plain, you may need the updated unit.

How do you know it is not the belt? Just curious. Did you remove it and run the vehicle momentarily to eliminate it?

I would describe a belt noise as a squeal or chirpping sound. But thats just me. Belt dressing will also help you eliminate the belts as the problems although I hate to use the stuff myself!
