Oil build-up on frame

Good evening from Cleveland, Ohio. My 1990 XJ40 VDP runs great. But I am noticing some accumulation of oil on passenger side of the engine on the frame. I wiped it off and it gathered again. Not sure where it is coming from. Anyone have any info on this issue? Thanks

That accumulation is typically power steering fluid leaking from the point where the large low-pressure hose clamps to the nipple on the power steering fluid reservoir. Due to the proximity of this hose to the exhaust manifold, it hardens and loses its ability to seal at the reservoir. The hose connects the reservoir to the pump. You can replace the hose with a section of 5/8 inch I.D. hose from your local auto parts store. Just measure the length you need and ask for a type of hose that is resistant to hot oil. When you remove the old hose, in order to reduce the risk of breaking the nipple off of the reservoir, use a razor blade or sharp knife to carefully slice the hose lengthwise, taking care not to cut into the plastic nipple.

The smaller hose has a metal fitting where it connects to the cooler, and depending on your VIN, may no longer be available from Jaguar. A shop that makes hydraulic hoses may be able to replace the rubber hose and re-use or replace the metal fitting.

If u have worm screw clamps at the resevoir, thats your problem. Sometimes a little tightening helps. If not the issue is the hoses, or the reservoir nipples.
