Plastic-Chrome Shift Surround- 91' Sovereign

91' Sovereign...I've put in 2 radios, adjusted shift cable over the past few years and consequently broken the plastic (fake chrome) clip that holds the leather shift surround in place. I was able to find one last year and now it's broken.

Been searching for one for many months now, pretty much everyone that's selling them, sell them with the leather surround and the plastic clamp has broken clips (does me no good). Does anyone have a resource of where to get these in good condition? They stopped making new one's over 6 years ago, so that's out.

On the one I have... only 1 of the 3 clips are broken, any restoration tips maybe? (if it were metal I could fabricate something, but with this brittle plastic, I'm baffled). It's really annoying having the surround moving around when shifting.

Hi Jabbro,

I know it's tacky on a Jaguar (pun intended), but a few carefully-placed dabs of silicone sealant will help keep the trim in place, yet are not difficult to break free if the trim ever needs to be removed. I think I laid a book over the trim while the silicone cured.

Cheers,

Don

Jagbro: I think I might have a spare. I will check. Also, if you search seller rb626 on ebay you will find a bunch of spare XJ40 parts. Ren

Yep, common problem.... sometimes NOS or unbroken ones can be found on eBay or at salvage yards.

The trim on my XJR has one broken clip on the upper left, so it's held on with friction for the most part. I just have to push it down a little every month or so, but it stays in place.
