Default Remove lower control arm crossbrace?

Hello:

As the title implies, I am wondering if I could remove my lower control arm crossbrace. The car is currently supported by jackstands at the two front jacking points under the doors. I need to get at my oil sump to repair a leak that is just above the bar. My fear is that if I remove it, the control arms will move, making it incredibly difficult to re-install.

Thanks in advance.

The engine is supported by the subframe.

I am not referring to the cradle. I am referring to the thin bar that is bolted to the fronts of the two lower control arms.

Are you talking about the anti-roll bar? You can remove that and the droplinks with no problem.

A pic would help of course!

See the bar underneath all that JB Weld? There are castle nuts at each end. It is connected at the front of the lower control arms. I want to remove it so I can get rid of the JB weld and see what is going on. The two jack stands you see in the front are just there for backup. The two at the rear are on the jacking points.

If you 'get rid of the JB weld' you will likely need to remove the entire subframe or lift the engine. The oil will leak out of the hole that is patched with the epoxy?

Looks like you leave it alone or I see a replacement/repaired oil pan in your future.

You only need to remove the nuts, not the fulcrum bolt.

Thanks once again! I just removed the bolts and the bar almost fell off, LOL. And it can go right back on.

Now I have to figure out what is under the JB weld. That will be done tomorrow evening or the next day.

A hole in the oil pan.

What is under all that epoxy?

I too forecast a few more bolts to be removed after the JB Weld.

At least it makes the upper wishbones easier to refurbish.
