Been thinking about converting the headlights and recently a rock made the decision for me as it cracked my drivers side head light. The parts are on order and I have a rattle can of the car's paint and another of clear coat. I have realized in the past few days that the color matched filler piece around the lights (the bezel?) is plastic... I'm thinking I now need a special primer for this material. I've read about painting plastic and the argument about adding a flex agent to avoid problems with movement but I'm more concerned about the paint sticking at this point.

If I'm in the wrong place, let me know. I saw forums for exterior care/detailing, etc. but not specifically painting so I thought I'd try here first.

When I converted my lights to round I just sanded the color coat and repainted the covers. The covers have already been primered and painted previously and I didn't sand thru to the actual plastic. They do have primer available for plastic but the covers aren't the flexible type of material like they use on bumpers so you shouldn't need anything special to prep them. Cary

the install looks pretty straight forward - did you run into any problems or are there any "tricks" to getting everything in?

No they go in quite easily-spent more time getting them lined up to clear the hood.Just make sure the adjustment screws are not rusted in place. And if you do have to loosen the screws be gentle-I broke one of the plastic mounts that the screw goes thru trying to free it up. But you will want the screws working so you can adjust the lights. I didn't get the different modules for the round lights either.Instead I made pigtails that plug into the original harness and also will plug into the headlight bulbs.The only difference is on the lowbeam headlight-it has 3 terminals-so I just plugged the pigtail onto the highbeam terminals on the bulb.They seem bright enough hooked up this way.
