Default '88 xj40 Tow Bar Wiring (Australia)

Hi all,

I'm in the process of attempting to wire up a trailer/caravan socket on my '88 XJ40. I have the tow bar but not the original trailer (hitch) wiring loom and socket to make the lights work.

Not being able to source a new OEM Jaguar harness (unless there is someone out there that has one for sale) I'm now in the process of trying to work out which wire should go where without causing a bulb failure light on the dash, which is not an easy task even with a multi meter at hand!!!

So, can anyone point me in the right direction....In my boot I have 3 empty electrical sockets which I'm guessing is where the tow bar wiring is supposed to plug into which are:

-Left Hand Side:
1x Round type connector with 1x White/pink wire and 1x Brown/yellow wire

-Right Hand Side:
1x Round type connector with 1x Brown/yellow wire 1x Pink/blue wire and 1x Black wire (which should be an earth)

1x 4 Pin Square type connector with 3 wires entering which are: 1x Purple/Blue 1x Brown/Red and 1x Purple/black.....now this is a strange socket because the wires are also fed into a small yellow resistor which has a white wire, a blue wire, a yellow wire and a brown wire (which is labelled short)

Does anyone know what each of these wires are for? (and yes, I have gone cross eyed looking at the circuit diagrams )

Ok...finally managed to get hold of an original Jag Caravan/Trailer Module part DBC2428... and even managed to work out how to connect it to the Cat...

Now for the good part...has anyone successfully wired up the actual towing sockets to this module??? Or can anyone tell me which wire is which? I don't care much for the 12s plug but need to work out how to wire up a 7pin socket (12n) when there are 8 wires to feed it!!!

It seems that when installed it prevents the fog lights and the reverse lights from operating...all very well when towing (so you don't get a nasty reflection off the towed vehicle), but not much use when not! Help!!!!!!!!

The wires I'm working with are:

for the 12s...White, Blue (these are spliced together) Black, Brown and a Grey/green stripe.

for the 12n... Yellow, 40Yellow/grey (these are the L+R Indicators) Red/blue, Red/white(seems to continually draw a current) Purple/blue, Black, 44Red and a 46Red....8 into 7 just does not go and I know one of these is supposed to tell the Jag if a tow vehicle is attached to the car or not

p.s. Yes I have a multimeter, and no, I still can't figure it out!
