Water coming from dash after car wash

Didn't see this one coming. Took the car (which I love BTW) through a touch less car wash and my left foot got soaked with water afterwards. Seemed to come out faster as I turned to the right. I've washed it with a hose before, but no water leaks at all. The car wash had an undercarriage wash and was a standard touch less water jet set-up.

Cleaned out the duck bill and it was working alright, now it is flowing much better. The water seems to be collecting in a black plastic A/C box under the steering column, then slowly dripping out. I think it may be entering through the space near the front driver's side windshield and quarter panel, but just a guess.

WTF?

Um, not good.

1) Sunroof drain are in that area. I dont have a sunroof, so no hands on.

2) The front screen has come unstuck from the body. That happens on many brands of cars, not just Jags.

Since you seem to have addressed the plenum drain it is off my radar for now.

There are a lot of places on cars where water can come in. Especially on the drivers side. One place is the seal for the steering column which is in the neighbourhood. Also pedal linkages.

If you have a garage, put a light underneath the car, turn out all other lights .. poke your head in the footwell to see if any light is coming through. You can also reverse and put the light in the footwell and look underneath the car.

If the leak is long standing, you can often see dust or dried water trails in the area.

Thanks guys, both responses will help me narrow this down. I will try the shop light tonight. At least I live in Arlzona, so this isn't as bad as I could be...glass is half full of Tequila!

Keep us updated as I have the same problem.

Just found out I have the same problem after using an automated car wash.

I checked inside and can see no obvious drip marks, I have checked the front vent cover and it looks like it has come away from the windscreen by the pillar, where a couple of plastic and rubber bits converge.

I rubber malleted the vent cover back into it's recess and used some black silicon sealant to fill what looked like a rather large gap.

I will recheck the pedal and steering column ports tomorrow as explained above.

I am hoping its the vent cover bit and its solved now.

Just noticed this original post was for the XJ40, mine is an 04, XJ8.
