Default XJ40 1990 fuel filler lid wont open

Hi, so I guess I have a problem with my central locking and the fuel filler lid is locked and only way is to open it from the trunk. The guestion is can I somehow get it unlocked permanently for example taking off the fuse from there? So that it would always be unlocked and could be opened just by pressing the lid?

Hi 1990XJ40,

Welcome to the Jaguar Forums! It's great to have you with us!

Please visit the New Member Area - Intro a MUST and post a required introduction so we can learn something about you and your Jaguar and give you a proper welcome.

You can download the wiring schematics for your car at this link:

Jaguar XJ40 Electrical Guide 1990

I seem to recall having trouble finding the schematic for the fuel filler latch, and I can't remember if it uses a bi-directional servo motor like the door locks or a plunger-type solenoid whose default unpowered position is extended/locked. You could try disconnecting the electrical connector (inside the trunk, behind the carpeted trim) and applying current with a 9-volt battery in both directions to see if you can get yours to open, then see if you can mechanically or electrcially prevent it from locking.

Cheers,

Don
