Welcome to the forum David,

I've moved your question from General Tech Help to X300 forum. This is the place to post technical questions about your model. I've also deleted two other version of it from US Western Region and X350 forums.

Please follow this link New Member Area - Intro a MUST - Jaguar Forums - Jaguar Enthusiasts Forum to the New Member Area - Intro a MUST forum and post some information about yourself and your vehicle for all members to see. In return you'll get a proper welcome and some useful advice about posting to the forum.

Hey Graham, a 1992 XJ6 is an XJ40 model not X300.

I know you know that. :)

But I would like to take this opportunity to say that I think that light looks like a "no bugles allowed" sign.
;)

'Er indoors thought it was a helicopter warning sign.

David, what things did they 'fix'?

Brendan,

It certainly is. I saw "92" and read "96". :icon_doh:

Moved again.

Welcome David. This happened to me on my 92 last year. Scary is all in can say about it. But I got on here and was told exactly what to do. There is an electrical controller switch on the driver side of the transmission. It has a small printed circuit board inside. In my case all I needed to do was to "reflow" the solder at the joints there. I am Not Good with electronics per-se but it was really an easy fix. Just take your time and be cautious. I hope someone will come along to fill in gaps I have left.
By the way, You can use the "search forum" tab upper right of the listings to search for info like this since it seems to me that most problems these cars get have at least been mentioned previously. Good luck and keep us updated.

Hi David,

Welcome to the Jaguar Forums! It's great to have you with us.

I'm sorry for the delay in responding, but at the link below is an excellent routine for diagnosing the Limp Home Mode (LHM) that has worked for me every time I have needed it. However, by far the most common cause of LHM on our '93 was oil contamination of the electrical connector for the Throttle Position Sensor (TPS). The connector mounts to a bracket on the intake manifold elbow just to the left of the Throttle Body (TB). Carefully disconnect the two halves of the connector, flush them with zero-residue electronic cleaner, allow them to dry, then reconnect and see if LHM recurs. If it does, follow the routine at this link:
