Yesterday evening after supper I put Nix's new starter in.
Ain't that just the Cutest little thing you nearly ever did see?!
Weighs just Half what the old one does, 8 pounds instead of 16 pounds.
As it's so much smaller it went between the oil pan and exhaust pipe Way easier.
Nix will probably run faster too, now that she has this new starter. (teehee)

The smaller one is a gear reduction permanent magnet starter motor. Chevy "started" using those in the early 90's and they're magnificent. Some how they turn the engine over faster with less current draw. They can usually be found brand new by major manufacturers like A/C Delco and Denso for under $100.00. Just another great thing when you have a Chevy Powered Jag.

Believe it or not my 1984 XJ-6 ( built June 1983 ) still has the starter it has had since I bought it in 1989. Never any issue. knocking on wood, but if it ever ever fails, I'll be sure to try the gear reduction starter.

I have one in mine, its second one... first one failed within 6 months. But they replaced it free... this ones now going on 3 years with issues.

Husband found a herd of them for $50 each - so he bought 3, "just in case."

To a point.

A few years ago, the starter in my Jeep conked out. Similar location as to the DOHC Jaguar. But, the small version. Mitsubishi unit. Quite light and the install went well.

Then , not that long ago, The LT1 in the Jaguar began to eat starters!!! I leaned I could handle the "cutest" version OK. The big Delco, not so much. It expired as well.
Rockauto warranties super.

The one on the LT1 is brand new. But, made in Malaysia !!! A "cutest' version. .
Issue fixed and all is well. It cranks very nicely.

And, aye, Fits in just right. One bolt needs a 'wiggle" socket, the other not, strsaight up and in.

Oh, the bolts had clever little sleeves to keep them in place as the starter was worked upa nd against the block to be attached… . . , ,

The dust cover was more fiddly to replace!!! I've two. One in alloy??? And the other in tin. the tin one fits best???

YUP!!!

I got "good" at it. I used my ramps. Easier and faster!!! remembering to chock both back wheels!!!

Big tin oil drain pan with the well known tools and the starter. No creeper, just wear my "shop coat". Faded and stained from similar adventures.

For me, the formidable task was to get off the ground after rolling out!!!

Typing interrupted by Fake Microsoft agent. My service card is charged a grand. Call for a refund!!!!

Chores done, including bill pay. Over fancy web sites gave me a tussle... Durn, it
oughta be easy!!!

Off to play outside a bit...
