1971 Series One Jaguar.. Coming home today
Bought myself a new toy..
Had a LOT of Jags and Daimlers in the past.. XJ6, XJ12, XJS V12, XJR etc... That was in London, where I had the services of a very good and cheap mechanic so didn't have to get my hands dirty. Now things have changed.. I'm living in New Zealand and I'm going to have to do the work myself.. I'm going to be asking a lot of questions.
1st job is the brakes, which are nearly non existent, not surprising since she's been off the road for five years..
Going to get the wheels off and see how everything is looking..

new front rotors. bearings, pads, and maybe rebuilt calipers,
entire system flush with fresh DOT 3 fluid,
also check front brake hoses and replace if in doubt.
the rears are mostly for the Emergency Handbrake. If the Handbrake holds good, leave them alone, just renew the fronts.
a good way to test the rears is to find an isolated downhill stretch, then try to stop with only the handbrake, then you'll find out if they need work.

Perfect choice of car IMO.
I would be checking out the rear calipers and pads, they are totally separate to the handbrake calipers.
I reckon you would tear off the handbrake pads trying to stop the car with them.
Have a look at the link below.
