The coupe when i bought it was without transmission. So the decision was made to do LS1 engine swap with transmission and keep everything as original. I know, maybe a lot of you will say why you did not keep the original engine.I want to use the car in daily bases with less headache. Plus extra power. The original engine on stand for future use if possible and i purchased overhauled transmission so i have the full drive train if i want to go back to them in the future. The engine swap done .The swap kit was purchased from Jaguar Specialties located in US. I will post some pictures of my coupe and restoration story to be continue.... |
Welcome to the board and very nice car.
|
Great project. I notice it does not have 7" outer headlights, was it originally sold in the U.S.? Yet it does not have a leaper on the bonnet. Keep us posted on your progress.
|
And yet another Coupe joins us!
How wonderful is that:?! And it's RED! Welcome to our playroom from ElinorB. (';') |

I add my welcome !! A very nice car. with the right kit that you have and a sound Ls package, it should be a really nice toy!!
And, for sure, I'll follow your report. Lots of pictures, I trust. Ciorca 2002 I did a similar swap. But, with prior GM generation package. LT1. Mine sourced from a 94 Cadillac Fleetwood Brougham. The two ft nicely in size and tune. Bolting it in the "easy" part. Wires, the toughest... Good wishes... Your name would be nice. We are friendly folks.. Carl |

Yeah those are definitely the ugly US bumpers. Not all cars had the leaper (my Series III doesn't) - as I understand it it was a dealer installed option.

Okay back to the Jack.will start from the body. The body was made naked. And this is to search for rust. The weakest area in these cars is the driver and passenger floor and the side sills.Complete rust.Pus the rear fender arcs. And under the fuel tanks covers. |
Yes the leaper is missing and it is gold color.Plus the fender leaper emblem badges are gold leapers. As you see the rear dash is rusty due to bad design. The have two holes with hoses to drain water. And they are blocked. And made severe rust in rear dash.

fed spec
Hi Hosam, you have a federal US spec car. Read icsamerica posts on how to strengthen the body. you may want to convert to euro spec while it's apart - 7" headlights, chrome bumpers, no side running lights. I'm currently doing this and have my 76 coupe apart doing the sills.

Hi Oliver,
As you mentioned .This is exactly what i will do.I will install the Euro bumpers.I will eliminate the side running lights. The new to me is the 7 inch headlights.Do you mean the external ones to be converted to 7 inch? Thanks |

Thanks I'll do a post on the status of my conversion soon, it's not easy finding euro front bumpers and mounts these days. In haste |

Okay i see the difference now.But i see the original ones are accepted and not that bad.Well i want to keep something from US spec. and leave them without any change. I will think about it during the restoration Okay now more pictures about stripping out.. |
Regarding the wiring harnesses.I am going to remove all and discard.I will use wiring harness from Kiwkwire. The LS engine came with its computer and wiring harness. So the Jack will be equipped completely with new wiring harness.

Hosam:
Wow. that is getting down to the basics!! Yes, the size of the outer lamps is akin to a pebble in the sand.... Don't those GM engines fir nicely!!! Sure hoe your after market harness is better than mine. Two errors or more in mine drove me nuts and cost me a lot in $;s to fix... You sure have a great place in which to work. Carl |

The shop who is working on my car is Kanoo shop located in Bahrain. And that Lamborghini box is box of Lamborghini parts :).
The most important in such restoration and the age of the car is to change the wiring because it become like fretting. And cause ground and fire. And possible electrical issues. The other things is the rust.Which is i call the hidden cancer. And when we strip the car more and more searches i am sure we will fine rust and corrosion. |
