1976 Jaguar XJ6L Sunroof Seal
So I have this 1976 Jaguar XJ6L that I cannot seem to find the right sunroof seal for. I bought one off of eBay that did not fit and we broke it trying to get it on. I called the dealer but they said that Jaguar didn't even put a sunroof in that year. Does anyone know the correct part number to get for my year and model and possibly have a line on the best place to get it? Thanks, Jon
This is the one I got from eBay that didn't fit: Jaguar Vanden Plas XJ XJ6 Sunroof Seal URO JLM000849 | eBay

That part number is for a Series III car.
I believe it is true that Jaguar was not building sunroof cars at the time yours was made. Aftermarket installations were very common though....which means finding a seal will might be difficult unless you can identify the sunroof, trace the manufacturer/installer, hope they still exist, and hope they can still provide a replacement seal.
Or do lots of hunting around.
A pal of mine with an XJ6 had an aftermarket sunroof and found a near perfect match for his crumbling seal at a VW specialist
Cheers

If it's a full length one it's probably a Webasto. The company is still around
Webasto:*Retrofit fresh air with a Webasto roof system
Should be able to get seals form them, albeit at a price.
I think they were dealer fit options.
There were a few with a metal sunroof (probably after-market ) I went to view one that had one fitted, chap seemed to think it was an original fit. Maybe UK only??
What does the label on the motor say?

According to the eBay application guide and internet searches, this one is supposed to fit for my year. The sunroof does not look aftermarket as it is metal body colored. I have contacted the eBay and internet sellers to see if they have instructions or a diagram to how the seal is supposed to be installed and no one has anything on it. I bought a repair manual and it doesn't have any instructions either. Does anyone at least have a diagram or instructions on how to install the seal? The seal that came on the car was a steel ribbon lined with felt that went around the car side of the sunroof. The seal that I bought looks like it is supposed to fit around the outside of the actual sliding part of the sunroof. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I'm afraid that really isn't conclusive.

If you can track down the original manufacturer/vendor/installer you might find something.
Sometimes installers put ID labels in the glove box or in a door jam.

I don't see how the latter could replace the former, if that's what you're driving at.
Google "Felt Sunroof Seal". You're bound to find a match.

American Sun Roof from CA (ASC)
At one time they made sun roofs for cars and they did the installations. My old S1 '72 XJ had one.
The only source for parts is a gentleman in Saginaw, MI, Jake Kelley. 1-888-298-8140. He has the parts information and how to install/remove/adjust.. if no answer, leave a message as he will call back immediately.
If this type of metal paneled sun roof, he has the seal(s) for the whole surrounding hole and the one(s) needed for the rear of the panel.
They look like "stock" installs and work well. I have that manual and can send it to you by email for additional information and to possibly identify your sun roof. Does yours have that curved portion in the front section with a removable plate held in place with two screws? That is the cable access point for the two cables that open and close the roof panel as the motor is located just forward of that plate.
I also included the parts description for the Webasto sun roof to show the differences.

That is the right one. I called the man and he said that they used that one from 1968 to 1979. The ones he has are $85 and $34. By any chance do you have the part number from the one he sold you to try and match it up? I hate to under cut him, but I am disabled and this thing has been a HUGE money pit.
