1978 XJ12L How much?
 

Hey! First post. I would just like to know how much you might pay for my '78 XJ12?

I don't know what kind of details to give you but here goes:

Restored 10 years ago. Went with the original colour repaint.
66,000KM by one owner (my Dad).
Series II.
It's not perfect, some scratches here and there but everything works, A/C too. Still feels really nice on the highway at around 130-140kph (85mph).

Welcome to the forum, I hope that you did not come here just to sign up and try to sell it, we like active involved members.

Regards what is it worth, can't help you, I don't know about Canadian prices, but I would hazard that it will be less than you think.

It doesn't look too bad though, snag is when you say restored 10 yrs ago and give no real documented details, then the aficionado's are going to think older restoration and needs restoring again.

And in Classic circles, unrestored and pristine is generally more desirable than restored. In terms of value.

Was offered a 73 XJ manual with overdrive at Xmas for 1500, still thinking about it (it will be available to me for a few years yet).

No not just to sell it. There seems to be a lot of interesting info here and knowledgeable people too.

I can tell you I wouldn't sell a car like this for 1500 anything. My 10 year old Subaru is worth 1500. I understand that it's not worth much, but honestly I would rather see it set on fire, compacted or wrecked at the local track, than give it away for a song.

Looks like a nice car. My guess is $5000-$6000 if there isn't any rust and no serious mechanical issues.


What was done during the restoration? A Jag enthusiast....you're best potential customer....would want to know. The word "restore" means different things to different people. For some, new paint and new tires is a restoration. For others, restoration means a total strip down of the entire car with every component and system rebuilt, replaced, or refinished....down the the last stainless steel washer

Oh, I see what you mean about the word restore. Everything works great with the car and all parts are original or original refurb jag parts, like the fuel pumps.

For the restore I meant:
Paint, chrome, mufflers, cleaned up the engine (not driven for period of ten years), some wiring work, interior headliner.

There's a '76 XJ12 on ebay for about $10000, so I guess the prices can creep up into that territory.
