1984 XJ6 Question About The Headunit.
Hi everyone, im a new user to these forums, and have just recently bought a Jaguar XJ6 vanden plas and was wondering if someone could help me.
The car i just bought im going to use as my 2nd project restore car. It needs a little body work, but the engine with 140,000 runs almost like new, witch surprised me. But my question was, how do i pull apart the dasboard without messing up any of the parts with the electronics. If anyone knows a site with a diagram or can explain pretty clearly, please let me know. The headunit that is in the car has a broken faceplate, therefore im trying to replace it with a new headunit. To remove the current stereo, follow these instructions (from my Haynes manual for series 1, 2, and 3 XJ12c and XJS, but it should be the same for the XJ6):
The following operations must be regarded as typical only. Unless the radio or cassette player has been installed as standard or factory-fitted option, the type of equipment fitted and its location may vary according to the individual manufacturer's recommendations. Disconnect the battery and then remove the knobs from the radio, heater, and air conditioner control levers. These usually simply pull off. Remove the radio control spindle nuts and the escutcheon, then extract the screws from the front face of the radio which hold it to its mounting bracket. Withdraw the radio unitl the antenna, power, and ground leads can be disconnected, then lift it slowly out. Refitting is the reversal of removal. |
