Default 1984 xj6 smoking and missfiring

hi all
i bought an 84 xj6 about a year ago and she was running like a dream up till a week ago.i was driving back home when she suddenly missfired and came to a stop. i tried to start her again but she just turned over not firing.now she starts but missfires then stops. when she runs theres bluish smoke. the spark plugs are sootted and soot at the tail pipe. can anyone give me some idea whats going on? it would be appreciated

Souns like it is over-fuelling, so this is the area to check first. After that check spark is OK. However, the problem may run deeper as you also report blue smoke, a classic sign of excessive oil getting into the cylinders. Another check is to measure the individual cylinder pressures.

You may have to lift the head if external checks show no problem.
