1986 xj
Need some advice. Got a phone call about a 1986 XJ with 36000 miles that has been sitting up for about 2 years. There is body damage on the driver's side that someone has made a poor attempt to fix with BONDO or something of the sort and repainted over it, anyway, is it worth tinkering with or what do you think it's worth? Asking $3,000.00, from a distance, she's gorgeous, but I'm thinking after sitting up for that long, I would need to tow it home. Almost scared to try to start it. What do you as the experts think?

An 86? That's an old Series III sedan. The most modern of all antique cars. They're great cars but you can bet it'll need some tinkering. $3000 might be on the high side for a car with bad body repairs. Watch out for rust, too. By now it's getting very hard to find one without rust....especially around the windshield and back window

Kim,
I have moved your post from the forum for the X350 to the forum for the Series III, which is the collective name for the XJ6 during the period that includes the '86 model you are considering. Here you will have a better chance of receiving replies from knowledgeable owners of similar cars. Cheers, Don |

if you can spend around $4,500. for a very nice Series 3 XJ-6, without that kind of damage, in running condition, drive it home to VA, you will be better off.
I know of several cars near you being sold, one is a 1987 British Green with Tan interior in very nice original condition, running, drive it home, no body damage, no rust, no issues. remember with that other car you are buying someone else's problem. |
