Um, your 1997 XJ6 is known as an X300 in Jag talk.

I suggest a quickie repost in that section to get the proper answers.

I dont know, as my X300 had no hole in the roof.

 

The Owner's Handbook might tell you how. The older XJ Series 3 body style up to 1992 came with a little Crank that is attached to the bottom of the sunroof motor and you can manually close the sunroof panel, but your 1997 is a Series 5 XJ, a different Series model.
