2.5 inch ID curved stainless tips?
 

Saw the posting about the Bells Stainless systems and that reminded me..

I am getting ready to replace all my exhaust from the manifolds to the rear with 2.5 pipe and run it under the IRS. Will use the new "smooth" shiny Ram Horns from Speedway or maybe the curved one and want to retain the size from the front to the exit.

Would like to use the Jaguar curved stainless exhaust tips but they are so small... want the same in 2.5 inch ID... Jay Leno would just have them made up but we have different income streams..:icon_frown:

Any reason for putting in larger diameter pipes ? I can't see they'll make much difference if the engine is left alone. WHy not just replace with a SS system with the standard pipe, and keep your old original swan-necks to attach to the new system. The original swan-necks are indestructible, and have a lovely rolled edge at the exhaust exit that I doubt any current suppliers provide.

Car has larger V8 - 6+ Liter or 383 cubic inches
 

Currently the car has 2" pipe from the manifolds back to the Jag mufflers. At the manifolds it is "necked" down from 2.5 inch to 2 inch. PO did the current exhaust system and it is not to my preference.

It is a 383 cubic inch V8... it should have/I want, 2.5" pipes from the manifolds to the rear of the car... but the Jaguar tips are only 1 7/8" ID.

I will probably attempt to remove the outer mounting ring from the tips and expand the opening as much as possible. Then either weld on the tips or
create a new mounting ring/expand the old one.

you can take the original tips to any muffler shop and have them stretched to fit the tailpipe. All it takes is to stretch about 1½" inch of their length at the point where it meets the larger tailpipe.

the original band clamps might not fit but you can use stainless steel hose clamps.

TRIVIA: the XJ-S tips of the same period as the Series 3 XJ-6 (1979-1987), have a "straighter" S shape. They are the same "s" shape but straighter, the S shape is not as pronounced as in the XJ-6 tips.

I have a spare pair of each and noticed the difference. I am saving the XJ-S tips for my 1965 S type which originally has straight tips. I think it will look awesome with the XJ-S tips.
