4.2 I6 head studs

I'm in the process of replacing the head gasket on my '84 xj6 and i'm looking for a new set of head studs to purchase but can't seem to find a complete set. Any info would be helpful.

Call Terry's and see if they are still available.

A UK supplier has a kit of stainless steel ones available, (David Manners), I have seen an advert for them in the Jaguar Enthusiasts Club magazine, and their website lists them at £55. Also SNG Barratt (US Section), lists a kit for the full set, but it's $491

For £55 a set, I would think it has to be China or Far-East sourced

Good grief! I'm trying to imagine what set of circumstances would bring someone to spend $491 for a set of head studs for an old XK engine.

"More money than brains" is my first thought but perhaps I'm missing something?

Cheers

I think I may have a set of studs put away somewhere if you are interested I can look. They would have come from a fairly new engine from a Series 3 car.

I haven't popped the head of yet so i'm waiting to see the state of the studs before i make a decision. Considering the age of the engine and the fact that they rest in coolant i think i should replace them.

thanks for the offer, i'll send you a message if the time comes.

Right.

If the cooling system has been well cared for---- regular flushing, fresh coolant every couple of years---- they'll likely be in good-as-new condition.

If the system has been neglected they might need replacing.

If the system has been really, really neglected the studs might not even survive being removed. No fun.

OEM head studs are pretty tough.

Post pictures of you original studs, they might be fine to reuse.

head is stuck

ok, the head has been hooked to a winch for the last 2 1/2 weeks and has not budged at all. i've read a user had his up, front end off of the ground, for at least a week before it came loose. i followed the removal guide on the jag lovers website and disconnected everything, including the six bolts under the front part of the head, but left the exhaust headers and fuel injection manifold attached as the guide said they are not necessary to remove. the car has sat for about a year now and did stall from overheating once before that. i'm thinking about unscrewing the studs, but know they can snap. any ideas?
