'86 XJ6 Climate Control
Hi, looks like I am going to need to know something about the climate control on my car. I took her out Saturday morning, and the heat worked fine. When I got in for the return trip, I could hear clicking and a whirring like a gear motor (flap positioner) running and not getting anywhere: it kept repeating some sort of cycle. During all this, the heat never came on. I finally turned it off.
Old cars are interesting but they can suck sometimes...

The whirring is the servo motor. It has a shaft with an array of cams and gears that rotate forward and back to operate the flaps and switches.
This might be something simple.
Or not.
To begin I'd remove the right side console cheek panel and simply observe/inspect what all the linkage arms and levers are doing. It might be that one of them has come undone or is jammed or something.
Cheers

PS- Fraser, thanks for the compliment :-)
