87 XJ12 Radio code
hi all,
had my battery disconnected so of course need the radio code from jaguar to get the radio back online. Called the dealer, gave them the VIN and they provided me a 4 digit reset code very quickly.
Here is what happened next....connected the battery, turned key and radio,
entered 4 digit code, radio beeped once and
"code" was displayed on the lcd screen.
Radio did not unlock. Now when I turn it on
it displays "code", if I reenter the code it does
not beep on 4 digits but if I hit another
key...any key it beeps but does not clear the
code display.
Seems like it is looking for 5 digits to beep but factory only gave me 4. Should I be entering something in front of code or after??
Any thoughts appreciated. Tks Chuck

Your car should have the AJ8700 Security Radio...
When it was new, it came with an envelope with instructions on how to program it, a cool card to keep that had the security code, and the stickers that you could put on the outside of the car window to show the radio was a coded radio.
The instructions do call for a 5 digit code.
Occasionally you can find the code written in the owner's manual, or on top of the radio..
I've seen plenty of these radios that would no longer accept the code.
Chances are the dealership gave you a universal code that would have originally worked on all of the radios..
Cheers

1. Way back when, I got a takeout from a near new Ford Taurus. Quite sophisticated. I decided to swap it in to my very nice 85 Ford F150 4x4.
even got the schematic to match to that of my truck. Very close, each a Ford. Needed a bit of trim to the plastic of the truck trim. But, it fit very nicely. Looked right. But absolutely dark!!!! Pulled it and did a bench test or more. Dark. I got took???? Bum radio???
Tossed it, got a decent one at the parts place. It also ft nicely and worked a charm.
Much later, I learned of the code thing. Ouch.
2. If four digits will not get it. Try five. And as suggested, hold down each a bit. In sequence just add 1-9!! Oh, do it before and after the given four?? Just might work.
3. Try another Jaguar dealer.
4. Rare nowadays, but an auto radio shop? Not the ones that 'slap" in noise.
