Hey guys I am buying a 88 Jaguar xjs v12 this summer and I would like some advice on it. The old owner is selling it to me for $1500, I'm in college and he feels for me and wants to help me out. He has recently spent $5,800 on repairs and tune-ups on the car. Right now it is currently not starting due to a dead battery. It has just been installed with a new alternator and new spark plugs. I have no experience with these cars and I am just wondering what I should look for and if I should steer clear of this car.

 

There is a separate forum for XJS cars, and lots of experts ever willing to impart their knowledge to newcomers, so I suggest you post in there.

OK, there are many similar or identical components used in both XJ saloon and XJS cars, but the XJs have problems all of their own, as you will find out.

 

Go to the top of the XJS section. In one of the Sticky/FAQ topics there's a buyers guide that will give you some basic info.
