93 jaguar xj6 sports mode quite working an car stays in high gear when driving?
I have a 1993 xj6. I have been having a few problems I need help with. When I bought this car it ran fine, up until about a month ago. It started I had transmission light come on an my sports mode stoped working. So I took off the battery cables to reset the CPU. I the light went off an the car ran fine for a few days. When the light came back on I could not get it to go off again. So I started to check all the relays an fuses. Its telling me on the dash fuse 2-3-4 but my fuses are good. Every so often the light will go off for a min or two an the car will run fine, but most of the time it feels like I am stuck in a high gear with a slow take off an no changing of gears someone please help me.

Hi coldtater
I suggest you move this to the XJ40 forum, (your car model). This one is for the previous model XJs.
For your info, the XJ40 'XJ6' replaced the Jaguar XJ6 Series 3 in 1986, then an XJ40 'XJ12' was developed that replaced the Series 3 V12 in 1992.
Yes, Jaguar model naming is sometimes confusing hence we use the model series designation used by the factory.

you may need a rebuild
How many miles on that trans? Your transmission computer monitors input speed and compares it to the output shaft speed and references the present gear ratio selected. If the transmission computer or TCU detects a diffrent speed then it expects then the TCU defaults or enters fail safe mode. The default / fail safe setting on tranmissions of that era is 3rd gear. This is typically caused by slipping clutches but can be caused by other failures too...including a week pump, clogged filter, failed shift solenoid, pressure regulator or broken wire.
good luck... you're gonna need it!
