93 XJ6 Maybe time to go!

I've had my 93 XJ6 for about a year now and over this past year I think my Grandfather and I have spent way to much trying to keep it running. From A/C to transmission to not starting and now I'm getting a mechanic to look at it again because it keeps dying on me when driving it. It has a couple of problems other than that. The transmission likes to stay in first gear sometimes like it won't turn on, i can shift between park drive and reverse, but when driving it would stay in first gear then later on feels like the transmission turns on and runs fine. Recently it's cutting off very often and I don't know why it is. I feel like it's run it's course even though it only has 89k on it. Any suggestions.

There will be some that may diasagree, but my opinion after working on Jags for many years is that if someone gave me a 94 or older I would donate to charity before it killed me like the market right now. You have to really love those to want to weather the eventual problems that will creap up that built Jags older reliabilty problems in the public eye. From 95 and later the change from a mechanics view for reliabilty is night and day. As far as your problem, while it could be many things, I would really look hard at the crank sensor if no codes lead you other directions as they can be alittle problematic as the engine and sensor get to operating temp it increases resistance. You can monitor this by removing it and when checking resitance across the terminals heat up the sensor with a heat gun and see if the reisitance changes. if so change it
