AC Evaporator Valve Tar Gooey Stuff
 

Work continues apace on the AC work. I have everything out now except the Evap valve. I'm taking my time with it being aware of the danger to the evaporator from breaking it. Hitting the connection with PB Blaster for a few days before even trying. Meantime, I've cleaned the tar like gooey stuff from the valve. Question is what to replace it with when work is done?

Anyone know? Foamy stuff from the hardware store maybe?

Google "Expansion Valve Insulation" and you'll get lots of hits, mostly from A/C speciality shops and vendors specializing in musclecar/Camaro/Mustang type stuff

Thanks Doug. Tape? I wouldn't have guessed that stuff was tape.

It may not have been tape originally. I dunno. But selling it "tape form" seems to be the most common these days.

Anyhow, I've used the tape stuff as above and it sorta softens and melts to form a gooey glob :)

When you're fixing up an old Jag (or any other car) and need supplies (versus Jag-specific parts), the Hot Rod/Musclecar sites very often will have what you need. Tons and tons of interesting parts, fasteners, tools, shop supplies, restoration supplies, paints....you name it!
