Aging oil

I have a 1977 XJ6C, which sees less than 1500 miles use per year. It gets a 20-30 mile drive every month at least, to keep the gaskets intact (and for sheer enjoyment). I use Mobil One 5W30, which, needless to say, looks perfectly clean after a year and a half in the engine. Is there any need to change the oil based purely on the time it has been in the engine?

IMHO you should change it at least once a year as oil can become acidic with use as and will contain condensation unburnt fuel etc.

I agree, but being as anal as I am, I would say every six months. Just the short trips driving, startup etc....not great for the oil.

If you get it out every month and get it up to temp and run it for 30+ minutes at steady speeds, you will burn off the vast majority of condensation and fuel from start-up. As long as the carbs are in a good state of tune and not running pig rich I would have no issues with 2 years...I'm assuming the car is kept indoors in a climate controlled environment.

As cheap as oil is, (sorta speaking:D)why go the two years?..Every six months is a good measure..But if you burn the gas less..then add the correct amount of Stab-Bil to the gas to keep it fresh.
