AJ8700 radio without code.

Hi Gang,

My '85 VDP needs a radio. The original was the very lousy ASI one with the sliders. I hear that an AJ8600 or AJ8700 is a drop in replacement and still is a genuine Jaguar radio. I have a chance to buy an AJ8700, but with no security code. How hard is it to get the code for one of these? Should I even bother?

Thanks,

-mB

It used to be, 15-20 years ago, that with the radio serial number or the car's VIN you could get the code from the dealer. Whether or not Jaguar *still* has that info on a data base somewhere might be hot or miss.

I'd call the dealer and hear what they have to say

Others will chime in

Cheers
DD

Hey Mike!
Several years ago I had gotten in a security radio from an XJ40, and needed the code to unlock it.. A friend was in good with a local Jaguar dealership, and called to get the code for me. Normally they require proof of ownership of the car, otherwise anyone could just steal the radio and ask for the code.. Luckily my buddy convinced them we were on the up and up, and got the code, so I think they are still available..
Alternatively there are people on Ebay that sell the codes with the radio serial number.. How well they perform, I don't know..
I've had mixed experience with the 8700 even accepting known good codes, or loosing them and not allowing them to be reprogrammed.. I'd likely opt for an earlier unit..

David
