Default Bad gas/water in tank/sediments in tank?

If anyone has ever had this I would like some advice/pointers. Recently my xj6 series 3 1982 would start and idle for 10 mins then die. After that it would start everytime but then die right after. I left the car alone and it would do the same thing the next day. Theres a new fuel pump, filter, alternator, battery, spark plugs, and volt regulator. This morning I started it up and it ideled fine and instead of it usually giving out the rpms fluctuated and it wanted to give out for about 5 secs then returned to normal. A couple hours later I was able to drive to the store about 3 miles away and back with no problems. I do notice a problems with the return/send valves as one tanks appear to be more fuel than what originally was. Could this have anything to do with it. In the meantimes I did put iso heet in each tank. Could it just be something in the gas finally burning off?

Could be many things and there are many jumping-off points where you can begin your search for the cause of the problem(s).

One of the many things it could be contaminated gas, as asked/answered in the other threads. As suggested 2-3 times before in other threads, take the gas filter off and pour the contents into a clean jar. This very easy and zero-cost step may very well tell you all you need to know.

Cheers

I had the same problem with mine.
I discovered that it was the engine compartment wiring harness.
The wiring coming from the distributor was shorting on the engine block.
