car breaks down while driving

I recently bought this 1994 Jaguar XJ12. It only has 89k. It drives perfectly fine around town, but once I take it for a long ride (>60miles) the oil pressure gets really low, the transmission light comes on and then it breaks down. If I let it sit for a good 30mins-1hr it starts up again. Can anyone help me figure out what the problem is??

RE: car breaks down while driving

Greetings,

Welcome, and sorry to hear about your problem. Before we get too excited, let me ask you a question:

Often times when an engine stalls out while driving, theowner will report that the oil pressure dropped to zero and they saw all manner of warning lights come on. Those are all the normal warnings you get when your engine stalls out, and are the effect of the failure: they have nothing to do with the cause. Are you sure that the engine is still running when you are seeing the loss of oil pressure?

Not all of the warning lights come on, only the transmission failure light. And also, once the oil pressure hits zero, that's when the car stalls, and stops working

Lots of possibilities. I would check ign modules first.
