Hooked to fuel rail by 1 ft hose. Can hear fuel pump and hose fills w/ gas. Have it soaking in carb cleaner as I type. Plan to blow air and carb cleaner backwards and forwards through it. Is there any chance I will be able to clear out a clog, or should I just buy a new one? Thanks, -Paul

Lots of DIYers have cleared clogged injectors with various home brewed methods. Give it some time.

The beauty of the cold start injector, unlike the regular injectors, is that the spray pattern doesn't really matter. So long as it shoots a big ol' load of gasoline into the inlet manifold, that's as good as it gets!

Cheers

Thanks for the encouraging response, and thanks for all you have done for the Series III community. I haven't had to post a question till now because whenever I google: XJ6 iii s3 <insert problem here> I usually get a link to something you have written that explains the problem and the solution. I have learned so much from your posts that I think I will be able to diagnose and fix most any problem that comes along and because of that I will probably be a Series III owner for life.

I want to keep the injector energized for long periods of time while I clean it, but I don't want to burn up the coil with straight 12V while I am “fixing” it. The Fig 24.1 EFI / EMISSIONS CONTROL schematic shows CF3 between the injector and the 12v coming from the ignition switch, any idea what that is? ( I can't get all of S57.pdf to load into anything)

I can energize a Honda injector with 1.5V from an AA battery, but not the cold start injector. It will energize with 12V run though the coil ballast resistor. Any idea what the minimum voltage to energize is, or what size resistor I should use to restrict the current? Thanks, -Paul

update

Hooked injector to to 300 ma variable DC voltage wall wart. Nothing at 7.9V, at 9.4V started to vibrate, then a few quick on/offs got it clicking, not as sharp as with 12V, so I think 9.4V would be a safe voltage, but YMMV.

Hooked it up to 90 psi air and couldn't get a bubble through it.

Had plans to hook it up to 10-11V ac to get it really clicking while hooked to 1000 psi CO2, but now that I know how scarce these are, I am not going to risk wrecking it. I will give it another days soak and if 90 psi doesn't move anything through it, I am going to use it to plug the injector size hole in the manifold so I can move the car while I chase down a replacement, then send it out to be professionally cleaned and keep it for backup. -Paul
