I have been doing a little research and the previous owner has fitted a manual choke set-up fitted, however I would like to totally remove the AED and give the engine bay a tidy up has anyone got or can give me step by step instructions on what I can now to remove from the engine bay. Thank you

OK, both of you have this silly thing causing issues me thinks.

It has been a very long time since I did this task, and both cars were HS8 SU'S, and the manual choke conversion is SIMPLE enough. The HD8 is NOT so simple, and I have never done one of those.

I will go thru my myriad of notes in the shed (huge myriad) and write this up as SOON as I can. I will also go to a car I know has been done (not by me) and take a look to refresh this old brain a tad, so patience please, I will get to it.

Thanks Grant! Not wanting to hijack this thread, but my S2 does have a manual choke installed but only on one SU (is this normal? It's the front carb if that makes any difference). I'm interested in the removal process as I think some parts still remain (would like to clean it up properly, remove anything unnecessary).

Firstly, welcome to our wonderful world.

Drop by the "New members area, Intro is a must" when time permits and do your thing.

I thought I had done that, but clearly I have NOT, apologies.

The AED is only fitted to the engines with the SU HS8 carbies. The engines with the SU HD8 carbies use a "3rd carby" also known as a "starter carby", and is totally different.

FUEL SPILLAGE WILL OCCUR HERE, SO TAKE THE REQUIRED PRECAUTIONS.

The AED has a fuel supply hose, so remove it, and cap the supply port on the fuel delivery branch tube under the carbies.

Remove the "mixture deivery" tubing and the elbows and "T" pipe. You will need to CAP the 2 vacuam ports where the 2 elbows attached.

Unbolt whatever it is that holds the AED in place and lift it clear.

Once removed, some other tidying of odds and ends in the gap between the 2 carbies is simple enough.

The manual choke is a "kit" that I believe SU Midel (Fabre ......???) here in NSW still have available. Somw cars are choked on ONE carby only, as the XK engine in good nick requires very little choke for cold start. Mine all had the "kit" and choked, and fast idled, both carbies, and was a sweet thing once set properly, and that is quite time consuming.

Once removed, the carby mixture will have to be reset ever so slightly, and that is purely to suit each particular engine. The "balance" of both carbies is mandatory, so get that spot on as well.

If the "bell chambers" and pistons, have not been removed and cleaned etc in the last 12 months, that will be a requirement, or else you are simply chasing your tail.

I always ran simple ATF in the carby dampers, and had no issues. That choice is purely yours to make.

Thats as simple as I do remember it, and what my vague sribblings trigger in the head.

Excellent thanks for informationif you remove the aed do you need to block the centre inlet port (left and right come from the carbs) on the manifold?

My Jaguar is a XJ6 S1 1973 and has HS8 carbs. I bought a manual choke system with knob and two cables (jag original for S1 I thing USA export). I want to complete remove the AED and install the manual choke. I think I will need at least one new lever for each carb, to be able to install the choke cable. The lever ref is AUD2610. I can´t find a shop to buy it. Burlen, UK told me that is anymore avalable. Can you help me on that?? If you need sone more info or pictures please let me know.
