DAIMLER SOVEREIGN 1979 PROBLEMS WITH ENGINE

Hi everyone. I have bought myself a 1979 Daimler Sovereign 6 series 3, and i have problems getting the engine to start , because the car was not started for 3 years in previous owners back yard. Can somebody help me with EFI electrical system. I need a picture with colours of wires, because the book I have is too small and no colours on there. I need to know what is what, and where everything goes . my email is daimler79@yahoo.com.au
Thanks. Paul

hi,

is it a Right Hand Drive model?

first thing to check is if your EFI system has a Inertia Fuel Cutoff Switch (IFCS). Those are designed to cut off the fuel supply in event of a crash, and they sometimes tripp.

Place your transmission shifter in position 1, and turn the ignition switch to START several times, see if you hear the fuel pump charging. You should hear a "whirring" sound from the fuel pump.

Not being familiar with the 1979, could be a Series II or a III, I don't know if your fuel pump(s)
is/are inside the tanks or only one pump in the trunk/boot.

RE: DAIMLER SOVEREIGN 1979 PROBLEMS WITH ENGINE

what do you mean by troubles starting? What happens when you turn the key? Does it do nothing, or turn over and not fire up?

In my 1986 sovereign, I've had problems with the neutral safety switch. Occasionally when you turn the key in park, nothing happens - drop it into neutral and it fires up. If nothing happens when you turn the key, you might want to at least try starting it in neutral.
