my r/l blinkers on my dash dont always light up yet theyre working fine on the outside w lights on and off

im sure its a connection issue..can anyone tell me where to look?

The flasher has a separate terminal for the dashboard indicator lights so I'd start there.

Of course the indicator bulbs and sockets would be suspects as well, but since both are simultaneous inoperative I'd look upstream first...at the flasher.

do you know where should i be able to locate that sucker?

on another note....i was warned last night with low coolent level on my dash. opened up the resivior today and it looked bone dry. going to top it off in a few minutes. andi had it replaced a few months ago

where did it go?? is that unusual?

i checked my oil levels to make sure it wasnt goin in there...had that problem on my other xj6

I assume there is no obvious leak, like from the water pump seal, or other places. Have a careful look round the engine compartment after dark with a torch. Look for little drips, and dampness near hoses etc. Reason Is ay after dark, is that paradoxically, it is easier to spot things this way, as your eyes are not compensating for daylight. I spotted a leak on a Rover inlet manifold gasket this way.

If you find nothing, it could be a head gasket starting to fail. Most common failure on the XJ6 is combustion chamber to a coolant passage. This pressurises the coolant chambers, forcing coolant out past the pressure cap as steam. I had this on an XJ6 and also on a Rover 3.5 litre V8. Hope this is not too depressing..

im hoping thats not the situation obviously. coolant has been visibly pouring out the water pump area. my mechanic is going to check it out today...hopefully today..my liver cant take such a pounding

where can i find this????
 

i am trying to the flasher terminal..can anyone tell me where i can find that sucker???

The flasher relay is beside of the main fuse panel... It's a black relay, about 2.5 inches high, and 1" square...

So, drivers side underscuttle, to the left of the fuse panel...

For the coolant leak, your mechanic can pressurize the system... It'll tell you exactly where the leak is...

thanks david. ill start there and see if thats the reason im not getting anything flashing on the dash.

as for the cooant leak..that was as water pump that went kaput. all fixed up and good to go now.

My blinkers now work fine....my relay was bad. Luckilly i had an extra one laying around that was operational. I also hard wired my xm satellite today. I hid the receiver in my center consol...ran the antenna under the consol and carPet...straight under the back seatS into the trunk. The antenna is small and magnetIzed..so i t is hidden on my rear bumper. No wires showing and of course i had to clean every wire connection i came across.

an easy way to locate the flasher: By sound...

remove the under dash pad and related pieces, then turn the ignition switch to ON. turn the blinkers ON to left or right and listen for the clicking of the relay. then place your hand over each of the relays to see which one is clicking, you can feel it with the hand.

Doug, replacing the flasher resolved my tachometer green left arrow indicator problem too, it used to flash 2 or 3 times and then it would stop even if the turn signal switch was still on.

David found me a n.o.s. Hella flasher and the problem is gone. Funny, I never thought about the relay being the cause of it, I thought it was a diode problem.

now I'm wondering if the flashers can be repaired :eek:

I had the same problem and same fix on my '87.

The turn signal circuit always befuddled me a bit. I think the diodes are shown backwards in the diagrams....not sure!
