Do Not Slam Boot Sticker
1 Attachment(s)
Hi Everyone,
A little while back, I came across an original issue Do Not Slam boot decal. Mine was long gone, just like most of yours I bet, with just the residue of the adhesive left on the plastic plinth. A couple of weeks back, I had the new old stock one scanned and had a vinyl one cut to the original shape. Not a cheap exercise, but very satisfying since I fitted it this afternoon. Just a reminder, press your boot (trunk) lid gently, don't slam!! Cheers, Nigel |
Slick. I wonder if a transparent sheet in the printer would do that?
A fellow lister on J-L made a "lens" for the needed "Check Engine" light in my swap. It replaced the O2 counter in my fascia so nicely. Further thinking, I wonder if vinyl is available for home style printers??? Succombed to Garage sale temptation. An additional printer. A Canon, this time. A bit newer than my ancient and more ancient Epsons!! Ugh, no ink cartridges. And a slightly larger monitor for the spare Dell. My "experienced" eyes will like that. 7" for 5 1/4" lamp project moves along. Bench full of components. Two buckets clean and painted. Now, match in adjustment and secure hardware. And spare bezels to grind to fit 7's. Toys, will I ever.... Carl |

Cheers, Nigel I do have several CORRECT Series III stickers because I had them properly reproduced from a 1992 Series III sticker when I was doing restorations. PM me if you want one - but again, what you have now is simply wrong in every way. And you are right - these stickers are the finishing touch so they should be correct. |
Nice one Nigel, looks great. I never knew they were fitted in the first place, if so all traces of mine are gone!

Nigel, are the smudges in the photo or were they on the sticker before scanning? |
Fuzzy Logic
There was some flash flare in the photo, so I used the in app control to try and fix it.
I definitely fixed it, as the affected area looks a bit funny. Trust me, the sticker is clean and crisp and looks just right. Tony, I have one spare (just in case I made a meal of fitting it), so I'll keep it for you. Cheers, Nigel |

Any chance of sending me the scan file, if I pm you my email or is there a section somewhere we can post files? |
Hi Anjum,
Nigel Thorley indicates that the sticker was the same across Series 1-3. The art file I was given was some exotic Illustrator (?) file which I could not for the life of me open up as I am not in graphics and design. Needless to say, I discarded said file as it wasn't doing anything for me, sorry. Cheers, Nigel |
No problems.
I'm a long way from needing any stickers yet!! |

Why nonsensical? The sticker simply displays the message in several languages.
Please see the attached photos I have just taken of the stickers I have; these are exact copies of the stickers from the very last Series III cars (1992) - and identical in wording to every sticker used on the Series I to Series III cars. The English reads: DO NOT SLAM - PRESS GENTLY TO CLOSE The French reads: NE PAS CLAQUER - APPUYER DOUCEMENT POUR FERMER the German: NICHT ZUSCHLAGEN LEICHT DRÜCKEN ZUM SCHLIESSEN (and the missing hyphen after the first words is a correct error - in other words, it should be there but was a factory print error). the Spanish: NO CERRAR DE GOLPE - OPRIMIR SUAVEMENTE PARA CERRAR the Italian: NON SBATACCHIARE - PREMERE DOLCEMENTE PER CHIUDERE Compare this with Nigel´s copy. Unless the photo of Nigel´s copy is compromised in some way, I repeat that the copy is not correct. |

I reproduced both styles of Do Not Slam sticker a few years ago. There were two styles of drawing and different fonts used. These were profrssionally printed on high tack vinyl and designed to last longer than the originals. I still have a few remaining..if anybody wants one then please message me. Also have lots of other XJS decals.
As we as being used on the XJs they were also used for Rover P6s. Regards |
Just found this old post. Am restoring my 1975 XJ6C and need a DO NOT SLAM sticker. Do you still have one?
Thanks, Bill |
Hi Bill,
Good luck with your restoration. I have a couple of stickers left. Give me your zip code and I can get a postage price for you. Cheers, Nigel |

Thanks, Bill Don't forget there are two designs of decal for the boot decal...the second type introduced about 1981/2. There's not much difference - slightly altered drawing of the hand/arm and smaller text of the later version. I have 2 of the early types and 4 of the later types left in stock. Regards David |
