door card '87 xj6 S3
Hello,
I'm confused by the Bently manual description of the front drivers side door card removal as is seems to address a two piece assembly (VDP perhaps)
Do I need to remove the arm rest and door lever first and then pry the panel away at the edges?
Is there a write up for this? I searched but nothing came back specific
Thanks
Jeff

my armrests have 1 visible screw underneath at the front, undo and then the top of the armrest slides back to expose the 3 large self tapers hold the rest to the door, mine also has a smaller self taper going through the door light that has to be removed[but i dont know if that is genuine], then it was a matter of gently pri-ing the door card off trying not to break the retaining clips/plugs.

Going from (distant) memory and assuming a standard XJ6 panel......
Remove the mirror switch, 2 screws
Remove 3 screws at bottom of the map pocket
At the top of the armrest pull handle is a chrome escutcheon. Pry it loose and slide it down to reveal a large screw. Remove screw
The armrest is held on with two peg-in-slot type things. Thump the rear of the armrest up and then forward to disengage the pegs (or maybe it's forward then up?)
At this point I think you can pry the door card off the door.
Cheers
DD

Hi Carl
I followed Doug D.'s instruction outlined earlier in this thread. There is also reference to bending the channel clips out a bit at the top of the door card for easier re-install. I did not have to do this. as P.O. must have done this already. Mine went back on w/o much effort. I did not have much luck with the dings. There is a sound panel glued to that inside section of the door. Guess I'll be going to a paint-less dent removal shop. I've heard good things about the process
I did not need to unhook any power. there was enough lead on wires to swing the panel out of the way for what I was doing. Sorry can't help you there. good luck with your project
