electrical consumption XJ12;key position 1

Hello, Car from 1979; I see 'something' is consuming continuously 650 mA from the battery. No separate whires to the battery. Removing all fuses doesn't help. Any ideas? I only can think of the alternator...

650mA is a bit high. Saying you have removed all fuses in an XJ6 is quite a big statement. There are quite a few inline fuses buried behind radio, in console and behind footwell panels, and those are just the ones I have tinkered with. I believe there are more than that, but my experience is limited to S3.

Should be able to test the alternator theory easily by disconnecting it at whichever end gives easiest access.

Hello, Thanks for info. BTW, its a XJ12. I'll check the diagram and look for fuses which are not in the fuseboxes.

Ummm. if the alternator is shorted, it will draw battery juice all the time, key position not relevant???

But, the test of disconnecting it at either the alternator post or the fire wall post and then measuring draw is applicable. If it is the alternator drawing I would expect a lot more amps!!!
