Default Exhaust Manifold to Y-pipe nuts

Wondering what the general consensus is regarding the best nut to use - copper, brass, SS, etc. I'm having trouble where the stock nuts I'm using keep loosening up. And I've tried varies lock washers and thread locker liquids to no avail. Any ideas from the group?

Brass.

See if you can still order genuine Jag nuts. They're brass with a locking insert of some kind. That's my experience, at least.

Cheers

I decided my best option might be brass jam nuts:

the problem might not be the nuts but the bolts.
Go to an ACE Hardware and get new stainless steel bolts, flat and lock washers, and nuts

that's how I did my down pipe to Y pipe conjection and it has never come loose.

bolt with flat washer through flanges, flat washer, lock washer, and nut.

Jose - Great Idea! However.... No way am I going to try and get the old studs out! I've had bad experience with a previous cast iron exhaust manifold with the manifold cracking and breaking a corner off trying to remove the stud. Yes, I used heat, brought it to a machine shop - not going to do that again. So, I'm stuck using the old studs. I really think the jam nut idea is going to work. And the brass nuts shouldn't fuse (rust) to the stud making taking it apart in the future risky. But... always open to thoughts from you and the Forum.

Bill
