FAQ Library ?

maybewe should opena separate site or "Library" for the Series XJ models?

seems like there is a new owner every day, asking troubleshooting questions.

there are lots of documented information in the web but not in one place, just scattered in many different sites and not easy to find.

I would be willing to help by submitting different Links dealing with different problems in these cars, of which I own one.

And yes, it should be called TheJaguar Series 3 XJ Library. There are Series 2 and Series 1 XJ, (same car essentially), but the most popular is the Series 3, which was the most "refined" of the threeSeries and which started in 1979½ and made until 1987for the USA market. (but was made until 1992 in 12-cylinder versionfor the rest of the world).

Just my $2.00 worth. And maybe it should be made by Membership only, with a small fee to cover the cost of running and maintaining the site.

Jose

RE: FAQ Library ?

Jose I always thought the series 3 was the 95-97, series 2 was 88-94, and series 1 was 79-87. Guess I'm wrong, but wouldn't that make more sense.

Car looks good man

RE: FAQ Library ?

here's theevolution of the Series for the XJ Saloon (Sedan):

1968-1973 the Series I (or 1) XJ Saloon which made its 'debut' in 1968, acclaimed inmediately as a 'world-class supercar'. This car has the 4.2carburetted engine.

1973½-1979 the Series II (or 2) XJ Saloon. 4.2 liter carburetted engine.

1979½-1987 the Series III (or 3) XJ Saloon. 4.2 liter fuel injected engine also in 5.3 liter 12 cylinder. The 12-cylinder was made until 1992 but not exported to the USA.

1986-1994 the Series IV (or 4) XJ Saloon known as the XJ-40. This Series started in 1988 in the USA. 3.6 liter or 4.0 liter fuel injected engine, also in 12 cylinder version.

1994-1997 the Series V (or 5) XJ Saloon known as the X300. 6 and 12 cylinder.

1997-2000 the Series VI (or 6) XJ Saloon known as the X308. 6, 8, and 12 cylinder.

Note:starting with the XJ-40 in 1988, Jaguar stopped calling them "Series".
Note: notice howJaguar produced two models during every changeover year in the Chart below.
Note: you have a 1993 XJ-40, or a "Series 4 XJ" un-officially.

look at the attached Production figures chart for the XJ range 1968-2000 to find your car. (Production chart courtesy of Jaguar World Magazine -Paul Skilleter -Editor).

Hi Jose........As you can no doubt see the Xsection seems by far the busiest within the forum and therefore the FAQ section seems to be more relevant to that model
However, you have a point.
If you or any other member provide FAQ's for the XJ or any other model ( the S springs to mind as that is lacking also) I or any of the other mods will be only to happy to add them for everyones benefit.

Thanks

Jim

RE: FAQ Library ?

When you search for the FAQ's, you can see what car it's for because of the forum it originated in! I wouldn't FAQ an Xtype FAQ in the Stype forum!

RE: FAQ Library ?

thanks for the info, for some reason I thought the series 3 was the first time XJ6's started. i didn't realize They started in the late 60s.

I think you showed me this chart before And i think I asked before if that was total production, or just US or just England

RE: FAQ Library ?

93XJ6: theproductionchart showsall thecarsmade byJaguar from 1968 thru 2000:

Those production numbers include all cars sent to Australia, Africa, USA, Canada, Latin America, Asia, England and Europe. It includes all Right Hand Drive and Left Hand Drive sedan cars. In other words, it includes all XJ cars made, whether they were6 or 12 cylinder,or Vanden Plas models,or Sovereign models. If you think about it, not that many cars were shipped to the USA. Jaguar is a small factory. Theproduction numbers werecompiled by the Editor of Jaguar World Magazine, Mr. Paul Skilleter.

Yes, the first XJ-6 made its 'debut' in 1968. The very first Series 1 XJ-6 was owned and registered to Sir William Lyons, the founder/owner of Jaguar Cars, and it is kept in its original condition at the Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust Museum in England.

here is a picture of the car as it is today.

and in thelink belowyou can see pictures of all theJaguar modelssince 1938.

NOTE: the very first "Jaguar", the SS-100, is notshown because it was not called a "Jaguar", but it was the first carmade by William Lyons in his "Sidecar Swallow"motorcyclefactory from 1933-1938, and then around 1938
he renamed hisfactory to Jaguar Cars Ltd.

Jeez.........Jose........that looks really informative, just a shame its in Greek.
If it were in English it'd be sumthin to maybe keep a record of somewhere, like open up a historical section maybe!

RE: FAQ Library ?

yeahh Jim, I think you can open it in Google and hit "Translate", but usually those online translations are a joke, especially Spanish to English. So I just look at the picturesand the Model names.

I'll sent them an e-mail to see if they have an English version of the page, I agree it is very informative.

Hi Jose........if you have any luck with this or anything similar that would be of historical interest, either email myself or Patrick the administrator directly and we can look at opening up a historucal section.

Thanks in advance
