I have seen the ones sold for US cars which are way so big and tacky, but those thin ones I had never seen, they look very proper for the XJ-6.

What a *Very* *Pretty* car!! Even if it is white.
I'm launching a search for that WD-40! If I can't find it locally, there's always On Line.

me too LnrB. whoever finds it first wins !! My '84 windows go up slow, and let's not even talk about the sunroof. I've been thinking of replacing it with a permanent dark glass panel.

True, a very nice example of the work from Brownslane. And, I usually don't care for white cars. This one looks great.

Gotta look and see if WD40 dry is in the snake oil section of the local parts emporium. Need a good polish as well. I used Meguire the lat time, topped with Meguire high carnauba content past wax. Glorious old paint. Polish used. Lottsa paste wax left Used some on my refurb'd cabinet/table.

Fener/wing bling not my choice. But, not so bad on that white car. I've seen far worse. An old school dechrome guy!!!

OTH, a lot of chrome on an engine dresses it well. Polished alloy will do.

You do indeed, Jose! You do indeed!
Thank you, I'll get some today.

When we bought the car, the PO said Very strongly, "Don't open the sunroof!"
I've had a convertible, see no need for sun roofs which are a cheap imitation IMO, don't even like them. I found the crank taking up space in the glove box, tossed it in the trunk with all the other unused Nix bits.

Mine works. And, on rare occasions, I open it. Why, I have no idea.

Autozone, huh. Mebbe next week. I have a battery warranty thing to do there.
So:

1. Dry WD40.
2. Battery.
3. Meguir polish.

Oh, and HF has a store near them. Compressor blew out a plastic regulator. Giant air leak. Need another. Blown out one probably an ancient HF product.

Daughter left patio umbrella for me to fix. Well, she brought lunch and melons, so I guess.

Son whacked most of back yard. some options left to whack. Volunteer plants of unknown etiology in odd places???

And leaves for the shredder or green can. I think the former needs fixing. What else????

Jaguar is for the most part, just fine. Except
1. Polish
2. AC
3. Speedo correction

Carl,
I like the "Once A Year Car Polish", the orange plastic bottle. Polishes chrome too.

The best thing to do with an autozone battery is throw it threw their window. Garbage with two metal things sticking out of it.
I've obviously had serious issue with them. Oh yea. I sold batteries a while back.

I have an Interstate battery recycler/remanufacturer nearby.

you bring them your bad Interstate battery and for $30.00 they give you a remanufactured battery (same part number as the one you brought).

the remanufactured battery I got from them has lasted a lot longer than the battery it replaced, which I had purchased new. Go figure.

I'm awake now, Sunday morning down-under. Some responses for you guys:

Wing/fender trims:
Jose, the chromed edge finisher is flexible & self adhesive (no screws). They were already on the car, I suspect since the 2000 rebuild. I'm sure I've seen this stuff in sold rolls so I don't believe it is "Jag-unique". I like it, and it is subtle.

WD40 PTFE dry lube:
Glad you found a U.S. stockist Jose! For the AUS/NZ guys, it's available at Bunnings in the tool shop, alongside the other specialty lubes.

Polish:
I use the full Autoglym kit. The paint finish was very good but a little dry. 1. paint cleaner, 2. super resin polish 3. high definition wax (twice). Actually, the only step I skipped was the clay bar, didn't think there was enough crud in the paint to warrant it. I like Meguiars products too, I use their leather cleaner/conditioner and the tyre gel is the best I've ever used - The Duchess' tyres will be treated to this when I've refinished the pepperpots.

Sunroof:
Elinor & Jose I agree they are no substitute for a real convertible, but since it's there I want it to work even if I never use it!! However I LIKE the idea of a fixed tinted glass panel - food for thought...

Can anyone suggest a good finish for the bumper rubbers?? Mine were looking dry so I used tyre gel. Leaves a nice finish but the rubber doesn't absorb it like tyres. I'm not too keen on rubber paint unless anyone has had success with it - just keen to get some ideas.

Cheers,

Secretly Elinor, navy blue would be my first choice for this car, no contest. I'm envious you have the blue. Trouble is, to score first colour choice is just pure luck when buying old/used. I am happy with the white, she gets noticed and there are worse colours! Ironically our daily driver is white, bought brand new earlier this year, and in white by choice!! In the VW it is so right.

I recently discovered what a great leather cleaner they make. PO used Mother's and I did the same for a while, but as I was in the Meguiar's section anyway, picked up leather cleaner. I'm not going back to Mother's.

Cheers,
I use Mequiare's Ultimate Quick Detailer (The missing line between washing & waxing) to clean my car (with ultra soft microfiber cloths) and it makes that black paint look Inches deep! I've never washed it nor waxed it.

While I'm at it, I go over the plastic bumpers and chrome with it too. The only thing it isn't Wonderful on is glass. For that I use generic Windex.

Cheers,
It is sold in rolls, I remember my brother buying it years ago when he had a panel shop.

I use Rhino Coat on rubber, tyres, leather and plastics. It works a treat on all surfaces on the car interior and exterior except the paint and chrome, the airlines use it on the interior of passenger jets. I usually buy it 5 litres at a time.
Not sure if they sell to the public(link below),we buy a lot of chemicals off them for the printing machines.

About AIM Chemicals...the safer alternative

I used Rhino Coat on the Jeep for 17 years, great on the leather too.

Tony , if you like Meguiars stuff their natural finish (not shiny wet look) vinyl/rubber protectectant works well on bumber rubbers and similar trim bits.

Let me know how you go. I know the owner well, back in the 80's when he started out he delivered 200 ltr drums of chemicals to us with his series 2 land rover and car trailer.
I can buy in bulk and split it and courier it. I just get his reps to drop me a litre now and then.

Jose:

Thanks. While in the thrash, I looked up on craigslist and found an outfit selling refurb'd batteries. Way back when I got a great deal on an Optima yellow top. I was hoping for another. Naaah, but, I got a refurb from an Interstate dealer. Not Interstate brand. Actually no name!!! Less than 1/2 of the best deal I could find on anew one. Budget was under undue strain!!!! That starter thing!!!! I 'ate' the core so as to keep the busted Autozone battery. so far, so good...

Amaezing:

My Autozone battery is a side post unit. It has tin inserts with threads to accept the cable bolts. Overload melted it loose!!!! That bum starter thing. I've never been enthralled with battery warranties. I've no idea as to how this will work. 1/2 hour trip to the nearest dealer, so I've waited. I've read that all or most USA batteries are made by one company, Johnson controls. Different spec's of clurse, but one would expect uniform quality.

Polish:

I'll add Meguir leather cleaner. My side in the Jaguar clean, Coco's not so much!!

Although not the best, I use Armorall on the Jaguar's black Rubber stuff and on the plastic Jeep trim. Tires on occasion. Looks decent.

WOW!!!

I was messing in the garage, getting to my compressor controls. Found an old tool box of mine. metal, nonetheless. WWII vintage. My first box. I took it to Germany with me in 52!!! I put in a bunch of "antique tools in it decades ago. Hand drill, Yankee drill, monkey wrenches, plow wrenches... but, ugh rust got to some of them. Can be salvaged, though. I'll break out and use my supoer big powered wire wheel. Oil 'em better this time....

And Exide, as I recall

I have a hunch that outfits with big purchasing power (AC Delco, Walmart, etc.) have enough sway ask for and get any quality level they want and are willing to pay for....or not pay for.

IOW, if Walmart wanted to buy 25,000 batteries built to a lower quality level for a lower price, the manufacturer would happily comply.

(Just using Walmart as an example. I've never heard any bad stories about their batteries)

Cheers
