Front license plate plastic retainers(?)

Hey everyone,

I'm sure that this is in the "almost-too-dumb-to-ask" category, but I've been having trouble lately trying to find a replacement set of front license plate screws and the appropriate size plastic inserts into which the screws are driven. I'm not even sure what this plastic fastener is called but in all of the sets I can find they are "standard american size" and the plastic retainer is too large to fit into the rubber/metal cavity formed by the front bumper. One of the little plastic fasteners is still there but the one on the other side is missing.

you might look for them in either General Motors or Ford fastener catalogues, because that is what they are, GM or Ford fasteners. Other options are salvage yards and eBay.

John:

Ideas:

1. Judicious grinding of what you have with a Dremel or similar might get it to jam in.

2. Note the latch on the cubby lid. it is similar architecture.

3. Note the latch on your dryer. Same architecture.

4. A wood block to force n with a pilot hole for the screw?

5. A "molly" type blind fastener as used to attach stuff to a home sheet rock wall.

I recall getting a pair in a bubble wrap pack on the odds and ends wall of the local Carquest store. Lots of neat stuff on that wall.
