Fuel everywhere under the car.
Started the series 2 this morning to warm it up for a drive and could smell fuel, had a look underneath and there was plenty of fuel under the motor. Looking at the carburettors I noticed the one closest to the fronts fuel bowl was very wet on top, I assume this is where it's coming from.
My question is: Should I buy a rebuild kit and rebuild both. Can I check the fuel bowl in situ and what to look for. Thanks for any advice...... https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.jag...4ebb6a360c.jpg |

HS carbs, good. Get a hammer, NOT a BFH, just a little one, and "tap" the top the carb, where those 2 hoses are. Thats where the needle and seat are located, and "maybe" its just got a "grain of shiit in its eye" as we say. You can get kits from Midel, and the kits are per carby, and I would do both if you are going to venture that far. Removing those 3 screws will allow the top to come off, and anew needle and seat can be fitted if thats all it needs, and that is all they usually need, every 20 years or so. |
Thanks Grant, my intention is to rebuild them so I will have peace of mind that there all good. But in the meantime
I'll take your advice (as always) and tap a little. So I can remove the top with hoses attached and inspect......that's what I wasn't sure about. BFH..HaHa.. |

Simple job Jim. Yes , leave the hoses attached for now. Do the simple GGG blow test on the needle and seat.

I replaced both the valves on in the HD8 carbs fitted to my S Type yesterday and also found one of the floats contained fuel so was not shutting off the supply so pull them out of the chambers and give them a shake to check.

Started it this morning and the fuel is pouring from the fuel line into the bowl. A few taps didn't help so am assuming the problem is the line.
Would a problem in the bowl cause this or should I just cut and refit the line first. The fuel line has a rubber sleeve on the end is this to help it seal. |

First thoughts now are: Float has sunk, they do that. Needle and seat has lost the Viton tip, although rare, it happens. The fuel will pour into the engine via the jet, which is bad, if the bowl is overfull. |

Good talking with you. Memory kicked in The hoses to the carby should be 1/4 (6mm), and the supply TO that branch pipe from under the booster, is 5/16 (8mm). Hope I am right, HA. |

New fuel hose in (6ml) and she's purring again....no leak.
Its just a short one that connects to a metal rail between the two carbies. Thanks again Grant. |

Well after numerous telephone calls to Grant Francis (who has always been there) I have been fixing carbie issues which kept popping up and mainly caused by the age of the units...worn and sticking etc.....

Yeah, everything was like me......old. Also changed all fuel lines, accelerator and choke cables.
