Fuel lines mystery '76 XJ12L

2 Attachment(s)
Gentlepeople,

I have had a foul fuel smell in the passenger and luggage compartments for a while, which could only be solved by running on the right side tank and leaving the left tank empty.
I am now tracing all the lines, trying to find the culprit. I have dropped the tank and will pressure test it asap.

What I cannot fathom are some of the lines that are not described in either ROM or any Haynes I have.

1) One set of hoses enter a black painted panel, which is bolted to the roof of the luggage compartment (and which coincidentally refuses to come down after unbolting). The hoses terminate in the wheel well, one on either side. Wheel well air pressure balancing??? I am less concerned with this one, but if anyone has a clue, please let me in.
2) The fuel tank vent line (this is a US model) connects to a hose, and then to a line in the top corner of the luggage compartment, in which it disappears. In photo 1700.jpg it is the hose on the right.
3) A mystery hose, which connects to a pipe going through the body to the wheel well and then forward? and at the other side to the top corner of the luggage compartment, right next to where the vent hose disappears. The left hose on 1700.jpg.
4) The vent hose from the filler cap. This hose starts at the front end of the filler cap, goes down into the fuel tank cavity and then routes up and forward into the body, see 1704.jpg. No sign of it coming out anywhere.

I've taken off the parcel shelf at the back, but no signs of any hoses. I'm stumped. Anyone care to share experience?

Hi bcvanbelle,

I'm in my own way to completely change all the rubber hoses, for fuel, vacuum, cooling, emissions,...

I'll let you know. My is a '76 California version SII.

I'm going to ask you for some issues about the vacuum diagram. I have the same issues. The books diagrams are completely different and I know that there are some stuff missing in my car because I have a bunch of broken/cut hoses.

The best
Debbie.

Fuel lines and other hoses

Debbie,

Apart from an aftermarket alarm system, mine is completely original, so apart from some minor wisdom, I can certainly take any picture you need to sort out your hose puzzle.

Good luck,

Bart
