fuel spewing out behind right rear wheel
 

hey guys and gals, I have fuel steadily flowing from the hose that comes from the valve behind the right rear wheel and goes into the area that the tank is in, only happens when right tank is selected, its not pressurized so im pretty sure its the return line for that tank, my question is how do I get to the end I cannot see? do I simply remove the panel below the bumper blade? I have changed all the fuel lines under the hood, but didn't even think to look for them here. I will also be changing out the ones in the trunk while I am at it. I know enough not to drive car with this leak as left side lines are just as old as the right and are probably about to fail too.thanks in advance.darren

Yes, You'll have to remove that panel that covers the tank to replace the hose..
You'll see the hose goes a short distance and attaches to a connector that screws into the tank....

There are a couple more that are hidden by the exhaust heatshield, so if you are planning on doing them all, look for those...
One hose runs right across the top of the exhaust...

Hi Darren

Yes you have to remove the 1/4 panel below the 1/4 bumper, but this bumper has to come off, and, (I think), the main bumper to gain access to all the bolts and screws that hold the panel on. There are also three bolts at the back bottom of the wheel arch as well, these are normally covered in underseal or such like, so you'll have to scrape this away. Sometimes the rusting of the wheel arch at this point is so bad, the 1/4 panel just pulls away with a piece of the wheel arch attached. I had to repair mine when I had the tanks out to replace the rear valance and boot floor around 1992. There are two rubber hoses one each side of the return valves.

While you have the 1/4 panels off, check out the supply pipes to the fuel pump, and also discard the big plugs on the panels covering the fuel drains on the tanks, as it makes it much easier to clean and drain the tanks if you ever have to do it again. The gauze filters at this point can also clog up with rust, and need to be removed and cleaned.
