gas tank flushing question
1984 xj6 removed the fuel tank drainplug and there is a plastic piece behind it. I assume it has something to do with the fuel pick up but I would like to remove it to flush and then put a lining coat on the inside. How does one remove said object?

just saw your post and have cam across this same issue. if youve already received an answer elsewhere then disregard this. those plastic pieces are actually gauze filters at the bottom of the pick up tube inside the tank. these require a very patient hand in removing as they are on very tight and you do not want to break these. i used a long pair of needle nose pliers i bent with a torch to reach up inside and tap them down out of the plug. i also used a latex glove wrapped around them to reduce the risk of a spark while inside the gas tank. i would recommend changing them. or attempting cleaning them with a mild detergent and warm water. hope this helps.
