neither felt not velvet, what exactly is the 1972 era headliner in a xj6 made from? mine is smoky dark grey in colour, thin and stretchy, a little furry,maybe a touch like suede, the detachable bezel bits need new fabric while roof is fine. what is and where can get?>

nNot sure of material but did mine about 10 years ago. Try Woolies? Hardest bit was getting the headlining out without damaging it too much and not removing back window.

I got mine from BAS Jaguar Interiors. Correct color and material, that was around 2003. Fabric is still like new. Headliner pad will come out through a rear door, no need to remove rear glass.
The original headlining is a two ply material which does separate over time, leading to a sagging headliner. The roof liner or pad will not come out of the rear door of a SWB car, though as Jose reports, it may come out the rear door if LWB.
